The Extech RPM40-NIST Laser Photo/Contact Pocket Tachometer with NIST is a convenient pocket-sized combination tachometer that quickly measures RPM and Linear Surface Speed. Use the contact wheel for up-close readings or laser mode for safer, non-contact measurements up to 4.9ft (1.5m) away. Characters on display reverse direction depending on measurement mode used.

Contact and Laser Photo Tachometer measures rotation speed either by contact (up to 19,999 rpm) or infrared laser (up to 99,999 rpm). The RPM40 also measures linear surface speed with the included wheel attachment. The large LCD screen displays up to 5 digits and will reverse the display direction based on which measurement mode is being used, laser or contact. The infrared laser has a maximum measuring range of 4.9 ft (1.5 m) so rotation data can be obtained from a safe distance, even in areas that are difficult to access. It is suggested that a piece of the included reflective tape be placed on the object being measured to yield more accurate results when using the laser. The RPM40 also features recall of the maximum, minimum, and last reading recorded. The Extech RPM40 accurately measures the rotation of objects such as flywheels, pumps, conveyors, fans, motors, gears, and more.
